CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) is the first global market-based mechanism for a single industry sector, designed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It aims to stabilize CO₂ emissions from international aviation at 2019 levels through monitoring, reporting, and offsetting requirements.
From 2021 onwards, all international airlines operating between participating states are required to monitor their emissions, and from 2024, purchase eligible offset credits to compensate for emissions growth above the baseline.
